Itinerary description
This is a one way walk - you take the train from Estación Benaojan to Ronda and walk back. Park at Benaojan station and take the train two stops to Ronda (there is an intermediate stop at Arriate). Train times are on the Renfe website. This is an easy and varied walk, mostly downhill and includes spectacular views of the iconic Ronda bridge on the first section. The middle section goes along the side of the train track. This trail follows the GR141 for much of the time; you leave the GR141 on the final section in order to visit the Cueva del Gato, where you can have a swim and look at the cave before returning on a riverside path back to your car. On this occasion we had to do a short diversion at the start, because the zig-zag path which leads downhill from Plaza María Auxiliadora in Ronda was closed for renovations, so we needed to go via Barrio San Francisco to pick up the original GR141 route. I've marked it 'Moderate' because of the length (15kms) but really it's easy because the terrain is not too rocky, all of the walk is on good tracks and paths, and there is not much ascent - rare for my walks in the Serrania de Ronda!

All good except the path disappearing into thistles and other spikey weeds and the river crossing not visible so had to wade across the river - all within 2km of the cuevo del gateaux. The final crossing of the river by Beaojuan was also not possible due to water levels.
Overall the walk was great with good views.
Hello. Thank you very much for the update! Can you please confirm - the overgrown path was the section at the end of the long flat section by the railway line, and after you've crossed the railway line? Between there and the Cueva del Gato?
And yes...when the river is high you need to exit by the road bridge and walk to the station on the road; there used to be a pedestrian bridge but it was washed away in the floods of 2018. I will add that instruction to the Wikiloc description, thank you for reminding me. Best wishes, Elsie
