Itinerary description

This hike crosses an area of incredible natural beauty, Hulshorsterzand and takes in the wider surroundings consisting mainly of forests as well as deforested open areas where nearly all of the trees were felled.

Lots of sandy paths and forest tracks, so hardly any concrete or tarmac.

Wide open sandy plains as far as your eyes reach making for magnificent vistas, especially from the viewing point towards the end of the hike.

The area is characterised by fascinating hillocks, sand drifts, dry and moist heathland as well as pine trees dotted / scattered across the sandy plains. In the Netherlands it constitutes one of the largest and best preserved areas of inland sand drifts.

Hiking in the Hulsthorsterzand area is highly recommended !

NB One part of this hike cannot be done between September 1 st and November 1st, due to the mating season of the deer. See the 2 waypoints indicating the entrance and exit of this closed off terrain. By following the cycle track along Hierderweg towards the wildlife observation spot you can avoid this inconvenience during the indicated months.
