Itinerary description
Take a bus or taxi from Sheung Shui or Fanling to Ma Tseuk Leng village. There is a nice path through the forest which leads on to a steeper section to gain the ridge. Follow the obvious path along the ridge to Hung Fa Chai and then Robin’s nest. After the summit take the wooded path north, down to a disused helipad. Shortly after look for a small path down to the right to visit the famous disused lead mines. Retrace back to the main path to Lin Ma Hang village, and take time to visit the old village centre and pond. Back on the main road there is a police checkpoint which stops pedestrians from walking down the road on the mainland Chinese border, but there is a footpath immediately to the left which takes you along by the side of the road until the place where you can rejoin the tarmac road again. From here, wait for the minibus, or walk down the road to the Ta Kwu Ling bus stop, and pick up some fresh veggies at the farm on the right. Buses from here go back to town and the MTR overground line.
