Itinerary description
The hike is not particularly challenging and is a bit of a slog at times. I rated it as moderate because of the distance, which is 20km. Once you have reached the contour path, the walk stays at that elevation for most of the route. You can walk it at a good pace. The hike is exposed to the sun, for the entire course, with limited opportunities for shade. There are plenty of loose stones to negotiate, but no scrambling or no technical actions are required. The views are excellent, though, and the valleys and mountains are magical. There is a good selection of plant life, and there was an actual snake too.
There is an R50 payment for entry, for one day or you can buy an annual pass for R300. They rely entirely on honesty to collect the money. There is a SnapScan QR code on a sign at the gate to make this payment.
I would not mind trying the 48km round the park route the next time I go.
