Itinerary description
A 7 hour hike that starts off in the forested slopes of the Rjukan Valley, that brings you up to the Hardanger Vidda. On the ascent your efforts will be rewarded by nice views on the Rjukan plant and the pyramid-shaped Gaustatoppen. Once on the plateau, the trail becomes more gentle as it snakes around the numerous lakes through the treeless landscape. The paths are well-trodden and easy to follow.
The hike can be done in a single day. Alternatively, you can do the first lap starting late afternoon, spend the night camping in the wild near one of the lakes and return the following morning.
The track starts at the Fjellstue where there is some parking space. You may want to pay the fee and take the car a bit further, to where the loop starts; there are some parking spaces there too.
