Itinerary description
To find the trail head, drive North on 84 Española-Chama, past Bode's General Store in Abiquiu, past the turnoff towards Abiquiu Dam (96), and past the exit to Ghost Ranch. From the latter exit, it is about 2-3 miles to forest road 151, which starts at the left (West) side of the road. Drive on the forest road for less than a mile and take the first turnoff to the right; there's a sign indicating "trail head". Keep going until the end of the road; you'll pass a sign "Rim Vista Trail 2.3 miles".
This is a short but rewarding hike with beautiful views of Georgia O'Keeffe land, the Sangre De Christo mountains, and the mountains running from Tierra Amarilla to Tres Piedras. There's a continuous and gradual climb up the mesa. Once on top of the mesa, it is possible to continue hiking on the mesa and descend it again to end up on 84 further North (CDT: Skull Bridge TH). Didn't do that, this time around, because of back problems.
