Musala, in the Rila mountain range, is the highest peak of the Balkans with an altitude of 2925m. Nevertheless, it is a peak that can be reached with relative ease, always taking into account the main factors for a climb such as the weather and the microclimate of the mountain. The route presented is aimed at people with relevant experience in the mountains as there are places that can be difficult for a beginner. The return trail is the classic route which is clearly easier and usually a lot of people walk.
The route starts from the Yastrebets lift station at an altitude of about 2350m, otherwise the choice is to climb 1000m from Borovets. Also one reason to take the cable car is to catch the view before the clouds come up.
Moving south, we will see in front of us the ski track that leads to the ridge, while to the left is the dirt road that leads to the shelter and the classic route. Soon we will be on the ridge and in 2.5km to the last lift station Markudjik 3. Up to this point the route is very easy. We will then enter a path and the climb gradually becomes more challenging as the terrain becomes more difficult. Approaching the Aleko peak (2716m) in the next 2km we will need to move several times over large stones. From Aleko peak to Bezimen peak (2793m) the landscape gets harder but the view in clear weather is amazing. We see Musala to the south all this way but also the lakes lower to the east.
We are very close to the top, only 100m altitude and soon we will meet the path of the classic route that in a few meters leads to the top. At the top there are various buildings, a weather station and a lot of people. With all this, the feeling that we are on the highest peak of the Balkans is lost somewhere, but in the end it was worth the extra effort to choose the climb from the ridge.
The return now from the classic route and the path descends NE towards the Ledenoto refuge which is located next to the lake of the same name. The rest of the route is on a well-marked path which will pass by Lake Alekovo to end up at the Musala refuge built on the northern side of Dolno Musalensko Lake. The distance from hut to hut is about 2.5 km. Finally, the most unpleasant section follows, on a dirt road for over 3.5 km to the lift station of Yastrebets (we are glad we didn't walk this part twice!).

Try this route to avoid crowds, at least for the half way...
Η διαδρομή από τις κορυφές Aleko και Bezimen προς Musala έχει μονοπάτι ή είναι διαδρομή με συρματόσχοινο κλπ.;
Χρειάζεται σκαρφάλωμα; είναι απότομο;
Σε καποια σημεια ευκολο scrambling
Ευχαριστώ πολύ!
