Itinerary description
Take the train to Riddells Creek. Go early. Follow Sandy Creek road for some time passing small acreages, all the while ascending the mountain. The landscape changes and the forest fragrances become apparent. Further you climb up mountains road to lions head road. Rest at the Picnic area where a toilet is available. You will want to carry water on this walk. Continue on the Macedon ranges walking track to Macgreggors picnic ground and further around towards the cross. Watch for the track junction heading down on a spur to Breamar College. Skirt the perimeter of the college to the main drag and follow it into town. Treat yourself to a bourkies bakery treat. Vanilla slices sell out early. Not many left after the 1:30 lunch rush. Get the train from Woodend station back to Spencer street. The exhaustion will ensure a solid sleeping effort that night.
