Itinerary description
Richti gorge
Our trekking starts from the village, Exo Mouliana. We walk past a stone arched small bridge and take the lush path parallel to the brook until we reach the spectacular waterfall. We stop there to swim in the pool and enjoy the beautiful scenery, under the enormous ancient plain trees. We continue our walk to the nearby beach, where we enjoy swimming, if we wish.

The description is different than the recorded trail. According to the description you start to walk the gorge from the village, but according to the trail you take the road from the village to the beach and then walk up then walk up the gorge back to the village.
I think one should either follow the recorded trail (down the road then up the gorge) since it is less tiresome to do it this way than the other way around. Alternatively walk the gorge down and then walk the gorge back up to the village or walk down the gorge but arrange before hand to be picked up by car at the beach.
I followed a very similar trail in August 2013. However I did not find it difficult at all (perhaps it gets trickier in the winter). Beautiful scenery with plenty of water even in August and at least 4-5 watermill ruins along the way, very unique for that part of Crete. Overall a fantastic hiking trail in Crete that makes you feel a bit like Indiana Jones or Lara Croft.

This trail is simply gorgeous (pardon the pun)! The first half leads over an unpaved road down to the sea and brings you wide views over a very pretty valley. The way back leads over a narrow footpath through this secluded lush green and watery gorge.
The trail is generally easy to follow. In the gorge you can occasionally get 'off track' but the trail is marked and never hard to find again. The trail through the gorge is well maintained and even has stairs on places where serious clambering would be required.
