Itinerary description
Magnificent shady gorge with a 15 m high waterfall. Difficulty depends a lot on the water level. From June to September normally moderate; in other months or after a rainy summer period it might be difficult.

Followed the trail in August 2013. However I did not find it difficult at all (perhaps it gets trickier in the winter). Beautiful scenery with plenty of water even in August and at least 4-5 watermill ruins along the way, very unique for that part of Crete. Overall a fantastic hiking trail in Crete that makes you feel a bit like Indiana Jones or Lara Croft.
Thanks for the positive feedback ! I changed the grade from difficult to moderate. When I did it in May 2011, it was a rainy period. It did it with heavy walking boots and it was difficult to keep them dry. E.g. : the lowest stair of that staircase was under the water level and I had to make a big jump to the nearest rock to keep my feet dry. Off course, you can do it with other shoes without bothering about dry feet.
Yes, I can imagine what you describe after some heavy rain, although you must have been a bit unlucky to catch one of those in May.
By the way, thank you very much for sharing this trail!
Is it possible to drive to the beach with a normal car or do you need a 4x4 ? Is it an asphalt road ? Is it extremely steep ?
Hi, as far as I can remember from my holidays in 2011, I saw "normal" cars (no 4x4) on the parking near the beach. You descend from Exo Mouliana (400 m above see level) to sea level, but it's not extremely steep. To make the road less steep you have a number of hairpin bends. Enjoy your holidays !
