Itinerary description

This trail starts just north of Hveragerdi. It is on very clear paths and goes along a geothermal area, be careful to not walk into a hot spring. We went as far as we could in Reykjadalur to look at a nice waterfall. It is possible to have a bath in the river - just look for a spot which as nice temperature. We went up to Dalskarð and had lunch in a hut there, it was possible to stay there overnight, the hut had bunkers to sleep in, but the hut burned down in 2009. Next we went over to Grænsdalur and walked back to the car park.

I really recormmend doing this trip, instead of taking the shortest rute to the hot river!

We did this trip in February which ment that we could not see the trail because of snow. When doing it in winter, one also has to be very carefull, because the hot water can make big holes under the snow. One of us fell in a hole that was 1.3 m deep. Use a stick to check for holes, or wait till the snow has melted, to do the trip.

Il faut faire cette boucle plutôt que le simple aller retour le long de la rivière chaude car la branche est est riche en manifestations géothermiques. Même en été, il faut être très prudent. Je me suis enfoncé jusqu'en haut des cuisses dans de la boue tiède.
