Itinerary description
This track crosses the Isthmus of Panama, Pacific Ocean to Caribbean Ocean, following existing footpaths. It starts from the beach at Chumico, Las Guías, goes through El Valle de Antón and crosses over the Continental Divide to follow the Río Indio all the way to the Northern Coast of Panamá. The track is very accurate up to Santa Rosa where you may choose to catch a ride on a panga all the way to Boca de Río Indio. Otherwise you have to cross the river and walk the marshy last stretch to the coast.
Once you cross over the divide into the Caribbean drainage you are completely out of any kind of coverage: no lights, no cell phones, no vehicles. You might find some beer once you get to Tres Hermanas, Limón or Santa Rosa. We have paddled all the way from Tres Hermanas to Boca de Río Indio: very nice.
