Itinerary description
Wow - what an amazing walk!
Long, yes, and a lot of undulating up and down pretty much the whole way with a few more significant climbs, most notably Feathertop itself. It is a long day, but doable. (Although if you never exercise and are not young enough to get away with that approach to hiking, this one might be too much. It's not the technical aspects, but we hike at a normal relaxed pace and stop to take photos etc and this return walk took us 9 hours!)
The views and landscape are stunning, there is collegiality among the other hikers you meet along the way and it is nowhere near as crowded as summer hiking popular trails in the alps in Europe.
The air is so fresh and refreshing, the bird, plant and insect life so vivid, you will enjoy this hike.
Remember sunscreen and reapply regularly. I used poles more of the hike.
Finally, all the restuarants back in Bright stop serving food either 8:00 or 8:30pm - we started at 10:00am and finished at 6:45pm, so after the drive down and showering, we had only 3 mins to spare before kitchens closed!
