Itinerary description

Well-trodden soft trail with some intermittent decomposed granite areas (hiking tread type shoes recommended). There is a short walk on an asphalt road to pass thru the pumping station area where the trail continues on the far end. Mostly intermittent shade with short areas of sun exposure.

Good views of Lake Folsom. At Avery’s Pond, there are some picnic tables but most seem to have fallen apart with age. You can walk a full circle around Avery’s Pond and there are several spurs down the hill to the lake.

Mormon Ravine Falls is a great place to take a snack break as the swirling waters keep the area much cooler. There are no logs or rocks to sit on so bring a sitting pad to place on the sandy decomposed granite.

I usually go on this trail on January 1st to start the new year right. It seems many other people do that too. It's also a nice trail to hike in the spring....and fall.
