Itinerary description
amazing hike, clear clean trail, just one comment is that the actual gain is around 550m and not 800.
we wanted to combine the visit of the holy our lady of hamatoura monastery with a nice hike.
we parked near the the hydroelectric plant in kousba valley, crossed the river and we went on opposite site to the standard climb to the monastery, and started a slower climb on agricultural roads between olive trees fields toward the town of tas kifa, that is a beautiful small town with panoramic views of koura, trablous and akkar, from there we climb up to the top of the mountain where is the ancient st georges monastery, from there we went gradually down in the lands of the hamatoura monastery on a very nice agricultural road that is super clean and very nice, turned around the mountain peak and arrived to the way that goes down to the monastery from the other side, we visited the monastery and also st michael church, and a monk told us about the monastery history, the churches and the saints relics that are inside,
after that we went down through the standard stairway down to the river and back to the car.
amazing hike and visit , just make sure before u go that u check if the monastery is open for visit at the time u pass through (usually Sundays it is)
