Trail photos
The trail leading to the lava tunnels passes through a woodland where crickets and birds are heard. A quarter of an hour later, we arrive near a skylight that leads to the bowels of the earth ... For 80 meters, we visited the lava tunnels, then we emerged on the other side of the tunnel (photo 1). We finally climbed the wooden staircase that leads to the top of the crater. From here, we had a wonderful view of downtown Auckland and other islands in the Gulf of Haukari. We had our sandwich at the top. We went back down the main path along the lava flows during plant colonization (photo 2) ... Then for the last 20 minutes of trail, we chose to take a path in a undergrowth of kidney ferns (photo 3), ferns that have the distinction of retracting their leaves to prevent moisture loss. We arrived next to the pier but we were an hour ahead of the ferry. So we wandered by the sea, between the mangrove (photos 4 and 5), halophilic plants (photo 6) and oysters ... At 15:30 we returned to Auckland by ferry,
