Itinerary description

This hike takes you from the east to the west of Mangaia island passing over the volcanic peak, Mt Rangimotia. It is an easy hike, just follow the path. Covered shoes is a must and it can supposedly get muddy after rain, but otherwise it is very easy with only moderate inclines. The trail is pretty and mostly through forests. There are no panoramic vistas of the island or the ocean. There is an antenna at the summit and the trail ends in Oneroa village by the war memorial and the Mangaia Island Chamber.
This is a one way hike, but we found it very easy to get the friendly locals in Oneroa to give you a lift to the start of the trail just south of Ivirua village on the east coast.
