We drove here to hike Kanaka Valley. Unfortunately , the valley is in the Pine Hills Ecological preserve. The gate into that section is now posted as no trespassing, enforced by the California Fish and Game. This section has rare, endangered gabbro soils plants. So we wandered around in the non-Pine Hills section and picked up some geocaches. If you really want to see Kanaka Valley you must go with a spring tour with the Pine hills preserve organization http://www.pinehillpreserve.org/tours/index.htm
