Itinerary description
We did this hike on the day of our arrival to Zermatt for the Monte Rosa tour. We heard that the Euroweg trail from Grachen to Zermatt may be closed for rock falls at the end of our tour which means we will miss the longest pedestrian hanging bridge experience. Charles kuonen bridge is a hanging bridge built in 2017 and it is the longest one in the world. We took the train to Randa town from Zermatt (28 CHF return ticket) and we started our ascent reaching the bridge from the east. The ascent is long but easy. The bridge crossing is impressive and not for the faint hearted. Eventhough it is very secure, the fact that you are crossing a 498 m-long hanging bridge is a special experience that you don't want to miss if you are in the area. About 2 hours to reach the bridge. After the bridge crossing, we continued our way up to visit the famous Europahutte where we had a cold beer. We went back down to Randa under the west end of the bridge till our starting point at the train station. About 5 hours for the full loop, 1 hour less if you don't want to visit the Europahutte (I strongly recommend it).
