Itinerary description
A moderate walk up the hills behind the small mining village of Llanhilleth.
The walk starts and finishes at Llanhilleth rail station for ease of access to the walk.
The walk is easy to navigate with plenty of obvious options to shorten, lengthen or just alternate the route along the way.
Usually beautiful views of the hills valleys forest brooks mining scars and remnants and farms of Blaenau Gwent, however it was really foggy this time when I recorded it.
Some strenuous uphill parts but otherwise a moderate walk suited to all and dogs.
Some of the woodland paths can get very muddy.
Route as per the map;
-Train station up Llanhilleth high streets steep hill.
-Walk out of the village past the old colliery then after the bend cross the road to take the opposite slopes footpath.
-Dog-leg back on yourself to follow the path up the mountain, this is the hardest part of the walk.
-Cross the stile, follow the sheep path keeping to the left of the ridge.
-Keep following the sheeppath cross the stream.
-Walk up the other side, cross the field and join the road.
-Follow the road east keeping the woods to the left.
-At the end of the copse turn left into the woods.
-You can take many different paths through these woods or just follow my route.
-Come out of the woods and continue the loop south westerly past farmland and obvious paths.
-Drop back down into the northern end of Llanhilleth. Follow the clear footpaths back down to the train station.
