Itinerary description
Ramales de la Victoria - Pico San Vincente - and back
It’s a pretty tough walk up de San Vincente. You don’t need equipment, except for some good shoes, food and drinks. I did the whole route with my son of 14, who is a sporty guy with smooth climbing skills.
It starts off with a nice walk across de Rio Ason into the fields, with some nice views on the Pico on your right.
After the first farm you will receive a nice warmup uphill and through the fields of some other farms. You will have to go through a fence at some point.
Into the lower woods it will be a milder uphill/downhill walk, up to a split-point. You can choose a 1 hour route (which will be a milder uphill choice, I assume) and a 30min shortcut, which we took. This is a first steep walk, which can be petty intense. But there is a nice cave somewhere in the middle, so that can be a motivation to persevere.
After this workout, there is a short easier walk to the next farm, where just before and next to the real climb begins. It’s one with a variety of terrain: boulders and grass at first, some sandy-grass next, slowly changing into lager and sharper boulders up to the top, which you can or need to climb with hands and feet. There are human piles of small rocks, check those regularly for the route.
And then you are at the top! Nice views all around (you can see Laredo and the ocean) and for us newbie’s a nice goal checked!
The way down is relatively easy, but take it easy anyway and mind your steps.
Enjoy!
