Itinerary description
Rakovec village to Gradec lake or lake Gjolli as called by locals.
Few months a go I was told about this lake but I couldn't find any info for it. I fiund it on the map and we researched the area to find the most convinient way to it. We decide to start the route from Rakovec as we saw there is a dirth road that leads to the place where the lake is. Of course, today we found out from the owner of the villa that there ia a fine marked trail from Gradec which is more difficult than the one we took today.
It was exploring route but can be used in opposite direction as we found propriate route on our way back. There were several shortcuts we wanted to take on the way up to the lake, but there was a fire few days earlier and paths were destroyed so we went per safe option by road. You will notice start and end of the trail is different, we thought road is in good condition on our way up but we were wrong, so it is best to leave the car at the end of the road above last houses in Rakovec village. Rakovec village has narrow streets, some with sharp curves and uphill so caution is needed while driving, luckilly the distance is short. On the village entrance there is a water and on the way you will see another fountain with cold water, at the lake there is a private villa and the owner told us there is a water but they had some issue to fix so they had to cut it for a while. We used the bbq next to the villa to prepare our lunch. All in all this is a nice and easy trail with a lot of potential for having perfect picnic day in nature next to the lake. We enjoyed it and I hope you will too if you decide to check this place.
Ps. Lake is located bellow one of the most beautifull mountains and mountain peaks in Makedonija - Borislavec or Bristavec as some call it. Also, you will enjoy the view to Ljuboten on your way to the lake, Anteni, Bakardan, Titov Vrv, Mal Turčin, Borislavec and Rudoka peak. From one point you can see Golema Vraca and also Mala Vraca will appear while taking the tour arround the lake.
