Itinerary description
This is a combination of trails off PR6. It is circular, with a few accessory trails that you can choose not to do to make it shorter and easier. It starts at the larger Rabaçal car park, heading up Levada do Alecrim. From here, you can visit Lagoa do Vento (steep incline with stairs; small lake and waterfall; you can take a dip!) or turn towards Casa do Rabaçal. There you’ll find a lovely restaurant and café. Toilets are managed with a 50c fee. You can also spend the night there. From there, you can take a short return walk to Risco, a lovely waterfall. Go down the back of the restaurant, by the toilets, and take the rout to Pico Gordo. We did not go to Pico Gordo, rather followed PR6.4 which brings you back up to Rabaçal Road, to the small car park. It’s a short walk on the asphalt road back to the main one. A very pleasant walk, with some inclines and stairs which earned it the moderate classification. Otherwise easy and one of the safer routes in Madeira - still be careful as even here hikers have gone missing after falls.
