R8 - Via Alpina (itinerario rojo) - Planinska koča na Ermanovcu »Porezen

Difficulty 2 | Walking time 5h30 | Distance 16.9 km | 1196 m | 574 m

From the refuge descend the road to the Kladje pass to the Vrhovec farm, where the route turns right and begins to climb slightly. Go around the summit of Šanc (1048 m) then reach an old abandoned Italian military barracks. Enter the forest and descend to a road on which you turn right. Follow this road for 100 m until you reach a crossroads. Turn right onto a motorable path, abandoned in places, which descends gently and passes near the Jeram farm. We arrive at a crossing located on the pass, called Vrh Ulce (814 m), at the top of which is a wooden object. We are at the limit of the watershed between the Black Sea and the Adriatic Sea. 50 minutes. Turn right onto the Kladje - Hotavlje road, which you soon leave to go through the forest on a well-preserved old Italian road that once connected Novaki and Kladje. When you reach a meadow, you can enjoy the beautiful view of the Porezen (1630 m). We continue on the road which soon turns sharply to the right and we find ourselves on the southern slope of Škofelj which we begin to climb slowly. Continue on the same road that leads above the village of Dolenji Novaki. Turn right at the crossroads, continue straight downhill then pass a new crossroads and follow the wood slide in the same direction. A pleasant path leads to the edge of a clearing that you cross along a path that is difficult to locate and that you follow to a stable. After passing the stable, cross the Cernica stream and join the Cerkno - Črni vrh regional road near the village of Dolenji Novaki (450 m). 50 minutes. We follow the road in the direction of Cerkno, which turns left and we arrive in five minutes at a crossroads. We turn onto a paved side road that climbs up to an inn at the entrance to the Pasice Gorge where the Slovenian Partisan Army Hospital Franja is located. From the bridge it takes 20 minutes. To reach the hospital, you have to walk another 10 minutes on a tourist trail in the gorges. Via Alpina crosses the Pasica stream which flows along the gorges and follows a road towards the west to arrive at the foot of the mountain of Drnova (1004 m). Cross the hamlet of Podnjivč and reach the village of Poljane (510 m) in about 40 minutes. Cross the village, continue to the meadows and fields which overlook it. From there, a path climbs a very steep wooded slope, first following the Trševka stream which in places falls almost perpendicularly. Then you reach a forest path that you cross only before continuing to climb to a crossroads located near the meadows of Labinjska leha where the path arrives on the left which comes from the village of Cerkno. Continue through meadows towards the steep slope of Cimprovka (Koap, 1360 m), which you avoid on the left. Then we climb through alpine meadows and arrive at a forest. The path narrows and leads to the Velbnik pass (1331 m). On the left, we see a hunting hut. From Poljane it takes 2h 10 minutes. The road leads to Porezen while the route crosses the Jalovec (1410 m) to the Medrce mountain range where many mountain hiking trails intersect as well as a forest road. Continue on this road and arrive at the Dom Andreja Žvana - Borisa na Poreznu refuge (1590 m), which is located on the northern slope of the Porezen (1630 m), just below the summit. From the pass it takes 40 minutes. The stage lasts 5h 30 minutes.
