R3 - Via Alpina (itinerario rojo) - Matavun (Divača) »Razdrto

The stage begins near the Škocjan caves in Matavun. Škocjan Caves are listed as UNESCO World Natural Heritage Sites and are among the most beautiful and interesting caves in the world. After their visit, follow the Slovenian long-distance hiking trail (no1, depending on the brand) to the panoramic viewpoint located above a 164m wall. 15 min. Continue in the same direction until the junction with the path leading to Divača. As it is not possible to be accommodated in Matavun (!), We can follow this path to Divača where we can spend the night. The route then continues straight on towards the hamlet of Gradišče, which can be reached in 15 minutes. Cross the hamlet, pass the Sv. Helena (St. Helena) church, famous for its frescoes and, at the crossroads above the village, take a downhill dirt road to the right. Cross the regional road and continue on a dirt road towards Gabrk airfield. Go around it on the west side then turn left and continue straight through meadows towards an old pine forest. We arrive at the railway track that we cross at a passage. On the other side, go up a slight slope to a road. 1h 15 min. At the sign, turn left and walk to the first crossroads on the right then continue in the forest under high voltage cables. The dirt road leads to the Divača - Senožeče national road. Take a sharp turn to the right and, 100 m further, a sharp turn to the left leading to a path in poor condition. Walk again under the high voltage cables until you reach a dirt road on which you turn right. This road leads to the sheepfolds located under Vremščica. Pass the sheepfolds and join a military road on the left. At the first crossroads, continue straight ahead then turn right a few meters further on and take a poorly maintained motorable path which leads to the hamlet of Gabrče. Cross the hamlet until the national road which one follows until Senožeče (560 m). 1h 15min. The village of Senožeče owes its name, in all likelihood, to the vast meadows (senožeti in Slovenian) that surround it. It is located at the foot of Mount Stari grad. From the Škocjan caves, it takes 2h 30 min. The center of the village is the meeting point for several hiking trails. Here the Via Alpina route again follows a Slovenian long-distance hiking trail. Cross the national road and pass the church and the cemetery. Continue and climb through fields and meadows then follow a forest path that climbs the side of Mazni vrh and leads to its summit. 45 min. As you approach the highway at the bottom of the valley, take a sharp right turn then descend to the Volčji potok valley. In the valley, turn right then left at the crossroads of several forest trails. The route leads to the highway. At the end of a reserve surrounded by fencing, turn left and go up. On the pass, descend to the right on a forest path and later to the left on a poorly signposted motorable path. 200 m further on, you reach meadows. Continue on the edge of the forest then through meadows until you come to a tarmac road facing a quarry. Turn left and reach by road the center of the small village of Razdrto (575 m). 45 min. From Senožeče it takes 1h 30 min.
