Itinerary description
This time i decided to explore this "mysterious" mountain to the east of Sannine. You can see it clearly from Sannine especially while walking at the east part of the massif. I was told from locals at Qaa El Rim that we call it "Jabal el Chaara". After parking my car near the lebanese army post, i took the trail next to the post leading to the valley of Qaa El Rim. The descent is easy following dirt roads. Before reaching Qaa El Rim village, i started to climb "Jabal El Chaara" from the south follwing a dirt road. At some point, i left the trail and started an off-trail ascent to a broken wooden cross above Qaa El Rim. From here, the walk on the ridge is pleasant offering amazing scenery all around: Bekaa valley with Ryak airport and anti-liban to the east, kneisseh and Barouk and mount Hermon to the south and Sannine to the west. Some parts are tricky but not difficult. The highest point of "Jabal el Chaara" is "Arid el Saquieh, 2030 m. Soon after the summit, i caught a trail leading to Sannine from the east. Around 500 m ascent will take you to an altitude of 2400 m. You can choose to continue higher towards the summits ridge (2628 m) (check my other trail in the area) or start the descent towards the starting point. Again you will be having stunning sceneries all around especially the mountain to your left which is not "mysterious" anymore!
NB: I recommend to do this hike in a group. I did it alone but i found myself walking on wild trails most of time and this may not be safe. This hike is physically demanding (distance and elevation gain) and should be done by regular hikers. Keep hiking!
