TOUR DESCRIPTION

Starting point is the parking lot at the viewpoint Pululahua at 2830 m. At the entrance to the “Reserva Geobotánica Pululahua” you have to register with the park ranger. To the left of the viewpoint, the hike starts zigzagging about 300 meters down into the volcanic crater. The path is relatively steep and also very slippery/dusty. Occasionally a few mules come along. At the bottom, the path becomes flatter again and finally meets a busy road that leads through the small crater village. (2500 m). Cross the village on the road and shortly after leaving the village take a small narrow path to the left. At the junction you will also find a signpost. From here, the path goes steadily uphill. At the top of the saddle, take the right fork, where the path climbs steeply up to the lava dome “El Chivo” (2700 m). The last climb before the summit is steep, and you have to use your hands in places. From the summit you have a beautiful view into the interior of the caldera as well as to the neighboring Loma Pondoña (2975 m). The way back leads on the same way back to the parking lot.

Note: The tour should be made early in the morning, because usually the cloud formation starts already at noon.

DESCRIPCIÓN DEL TOUR

El punto de partida es el parqueadero del mirador Pululahua a 2830 m. A la entrada de la "Reserva Geobotánica Pululahua" hay que registrarse con el guardaparque. A la izquierda del mirador, la caminata comienza a descender en zigzag unos 300 metros hacia el cráter. El camino es relativamente empinado y también muy resbaladizo/polvo. De vez en cuando aparecen algunas mulas. En la parte inferior, el camino vuelve a ser más llano y finalmente se encuentra con una carretera transitada que atraviesa el pequeño pueblo del cráter. (2500 m). Cruce el pueblo por la carretera y tome un pequeño y estrecho camino a la izquierda poco después de salir del pueblo. En el cruce también encontrará una señalización. A partir de aquí, el sendero sigue subiendo. En la collada, tome la bifurcación de la derecha, donde el camino sube con fuerza hasta el domo "El Chivo" (2700 m). La última subida antes de la cumbre es empinada y hay que usar las manos en algunos puntos. Desde la cima se tiene una hermosa vista del interior de la caldera y de la vecina Loma Pondoña (2975 m). El camino de vuelta lleva por el mismo sendero hasta el aparcamiento.

Nota: La excursión debe realizarse a primera hora de la mañana, ya que las nubes suelen empezar a formarse a mediodía.

TOURENBESCHREIBUNG

Ausgangspunkt ist der Parkplatz beim Aussichtspunkt Pululahua auf 2830 m. Am Eingang zur „Reserva Geobotánica Pululahua“ muss man sich beim Parkwächter registrieren lassen. Links des Aussichtspunktes startet die Wanderung im Zickzack ca. 300 Höhenmeter hinab in den Vulkankrater. Der Weg ist relativ steil und auch sehr rutschig/staubig. Gelegentlich kommen auch ein paar Maultiere entgegen. Unten wird der Weg wieder flacher und trifft letztlich auf eine befahrene Straße, die durch das kleine Kraterdorf führt. (2500 m). Das Dorf auf der Straße durchqueren und kurz nach Ortsausgang einen kleinen schmalen Pfad nach links nehmen. An der Abzweigung findet man auch eine Beschilderung. Von hier geht es nun stets bergaufwärts. Oben auf dem Sattel angekommen nimmt man die rechte Abzweigung, wo der Pfad steil bis auf den Lavadom „El Chivo“ (2700 m) hinaufführt. Der letzte Aufstieg vor dem Gipfel ist steil und man muss stellenweise die Hände benutzen. Vom Gipfel hat man dann einen schönen Blick ins Innere der Caldera sowie auf den benachbarten Loma Pondoña (2975 m). Der Rückweg führt auf dem gleichen Weg zurück zum Parkplatz.

Hinweis: Die Tour sollte früh morgens gemacht werden, denn meist setzt die Wolkenbildung schon mittags ein.
