Itinerary description
48 hours in the pristine nature of the Albanian Alps.
Elevation gain is incorrect - blame it on Garmin and Wikiloc. In the reality it is around 2300m elevation gain in two days but carrying tents most of the time.

Great photos and choice of route! Can you remember what the way down from Shnikut towards Dobrace Katun (South West) looks like?
Mirdita, it was quite spontaneous what we did there - primary idea was to go to Buni Jezerces but the pass of Koprishit appered full of snow and I was quite amazed with the beauty of the “Kellmend” side of Prokletije so we decided to go to Maja e Madhe instead I wrote whole story in English pls have a read here: https://nestvarna.blog/2010/01/09/albania-prokletije-ii-bjeshket-e-nemuna/ From Maja Madhe (Shnikut) we descended following the ridge and its scales. There is a water source in the bottom. From the water spring I ve continued descending for 20 minutes until we reached the well beaten shepherds path that comes from Stani Gez (called something like that). From there we knew we had to
go to the right to reach our tents. Btw. yesterday I was analyzing your trail to Kolata e Keqe from Valbona, I saw you descended “directly down” from peak, below Qafa e Preslopit, I wonder how steep it is. I think of going to Kolata in April when the snow gets hard and stable and this short access would save a lot of time if its not too steep.
Thanks for the compliments, I admire the nature and the people of North Albania greatly. Last summer finally visited Valbona and Tropoja. This summer I think Buni Jezerces would be more beautiful than ever with all this snow!
That descent from Kolata is quite steep. It looks deceptively OK from the top, but I would not feel comfortable with a heavy pack or on snow and instead return to the marked ascent route.
When local groups do winter ascents on Kolata coming up from Valbona, they take an even more direct route though - it depends what you consider safe.
Have you looked at this route? I saw it once and wondered whether it "really exists": https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trails/maja-kolata-37714209
Thanks for sharing your post and very interesting! What I wondered is whether there's a manageable trail where you arrived/left from the Shnikut Ridge to continue onward to the West and eventually descent to the South. See here https://ibb.co/L5rVTs0
