Itinerary description
https://trails.visitazores.com/en/trails-azores/sao-miguel/caldeiras-da-ribeira-grande-salto-do-cabrito
You explore the valley of the Ribeira Grande river in between the altidudes of 120-300 m, with a water reservoir at the top, and two small hydroelectric power stations and a waterfall on the descent.
A large part of the trail is on paved or dirt roads, with only the descent towards Salto do Cabrito containing some steeper sections. Following bad weather, it may occur that the trail is closed (can be checked on web site mentioned above).
Waypoints
Termas das Caldeiras
Trailhead of PRC29 is near the hot water springs with their spa.
Caldeiras de Cozido da Ribeira Grande
Here you can see the fumaroles which are equipped to be used for cooking "Cozido das Caldeiras", the famous stew of São Miguel.
Conduta Agua
Here you meet the water conduit that leads from the Ribeira Grande dam down to the hydroelectric power stations that you will see later in the walk.
Barragem da Fajã da Ribeira Grande
This reservoir at an altitude of 300 m stores the water that drives the hydroelectric power stations located at 160-200 m altitude, downstream Ribeira Grande.
Central Hidroelectrica Da Fajã Do Redondo
Central Hidroelectrica do Salto do Cabrito

Scenery
Moderate
Part through wood and at waterfall is amazing. That part trough fields are drivable :) and time spent there could use for other viewpoints if you are in hurry.
Dear ar.cinis,
Thank you for your comment, with which I agree. Except for the visit to the Ribeira Grande reservoir and the descent and visit to the Cascata do Cabrito waterfall, the rest of the walk is on tarmac or dirt roads and hence could be driven as well, and there are trails with greater scenic views to be done on São Miguel.
Beyond reservior there is scenic road to real wild nature.
