Itinerary description
There is very little information about this trail (it doesn’t even show up on Open Street Map), and even the official map and pamphlet available in the village have limited use for navigating or planning. I didn’t do much of this trail, but went to the area twice and cobbled a few things together. I want to put this rough report out to Wikiloc users with the hope that others will check out this trail and add information. It’s a lovely area, with many interesting views. Not much shade on the trail (as far as I went), but there are mature carobs and a few benches along the way. The part of the trail that goes along old roads is easy, but I can't comment on what the footpath part is like as the trail traverses along the gorge slope.
There are a number of trails, tracks, and roads running through this area. You can park in a small car park by the trail info kiosk at the main village junction where there’s a bus stop and a village map, and walk a few minutes to the trailhead that starts at the old village square, or park right by the square. The first part of the trail is an old road that leads to the old stone threshing floor, where there is a picnic table and a viewpoint bench. Past that the old road/trail decends to a main junction with another info map. From there the official trail continues straight on, but you can walk the road that crosses it in either direction. On the map it shows that this junction is a “parking” area, and you can drive to this point by taking the “old village road” and turning almost immediately right (if you’re coming from the west/Avdimou off the B road). I met a local resident walking her dog and she said you can turn left at this junction and make a loop back to the village. I didn’t do this but made a short exploration and figured it would be easy enough to find the route. From that left at the junction soon there’s a track that goes left and heads toward a rock quarry (you’ll see this as you approach). The track skirts around a fenced farm and from Open Street Map you can see that there are a couple of tracks and roads that will loop you back into the village.
The trail eventually heads steeply down along the slope of the gorge and will take you to a church. I did part of this steep decent but abandoned the project because of time. I wasn’t sure how much more it was going to decend, but apparently it levels out soon and just traverses the slope.
Prastio Avdimou village is very pleasant, and the beautiful Panagia Diakinoysa church is worth having a look at https://allaboutlimassol.com/en/panagia-diakinoysa-prasteio-aydimoy.
The Ancient Olive Tree of Avdimou (right on the B road) is worth stopping for. It shows up on Google maps and there’s a road just up from it you can turn onto for parking.
The iconic Prastio waterfall is nearby. It's not much to look at when it's dry, but it's a pleasant enough 30 minute diversion through grazed fields with mature trees and shrubs. The gorge is quite dramatic.

Thank you for discovering this trail. Walked it till the end , the gorge is fantastic.
I'm so glad you found my intro to this trail and did it! I thought you might see it and do some exploring because you were checking out the Pissouri area trails around the same time. I'll look forward to reading your trip report and doing this trail in its entirety when I return to Cyprus in October. Happy trails Marianna!
