Itinerary description

This is a trek log of a winter ascent to Prashar Lake from Suda village (overnight halt for HRTC buses plying between Mandi and Bagi village).

Prashar Lake lies 50 km north of Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, India, The lake lies along a three storied pagoda-like temple dedicated to sage Prashar. The temple was built in the thirteenth century and legend has it was built by a baby from a single tree. With deep blue waters, the lake is held sacred to sage Prashar and he is regarded to have meditated there. The lake and temple are surrounded by snow-capped peaks and the trek to the lake provides breathtaking views of Dhauladhar, Pir Pinjal and Kinnaur mountain ranges.

Prashar lake is connected to Bagi village by a "good weather" road. This road is closed during winters when this ridge receives heavy snowfall. However, the road ensures an easy navigation to the lake and there are no steep ascents or descents. These factors combined make this is an excellent beginner winter trek that can be attempted with children.
