Itinerary description
We started / finished this 13.5 km trail in the village of Couto de Baixo, with parking close to the cemetery, and a cafe nearby.
After 600 meters we started to descend for 1.4 kms to the bridge over the river Lordelo, which was impressive because of the quantity of passing water.
The trail takes you through agricultural land, the water channels (levada's) to the old village of Parada, and on to Lourizela.
At the 8.0 kms point the 2.5 km descent is to the waterline where there are beautiful views of the water, before crossing over a bridge close to an impressive waterfall.
The path follows the shoreline of the Dam before climbing up in the direction of the village of Couto de Baixo. The last climb (1 km) is quite steep and hard going.
