Itinerary description
Experience this 10.1-km loop trail near Canhas, Madeira. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 4 h 26 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring.
Please note: some users have reported difficult segments due to landslides and possible closures. Please check the park's website before visiting. The use of hiking poles is recommended.
The hike starts on a high plateau. From there it passes through a levada until a small reservoir where several levadas flow. From there it goes over the asphalt to a small hut with a rest area (Rabaçal). Along a levada goes to a waterfall that is worth seeing.
The way back is down a stone staircase and then along the 25 springs of Levada. Here you can balance yourself a little and watch rainbow trout. And in the end there is another very beautiful waterfall. At the end, there is a tunnel 800 meters long. You will need a flashlight to walk through the tunnel.
The landscape is very, very beautiful, but there are too many people. If you are looking for peace and solitude, you should avoid this route.
