Itinerary description
A levada dos Cedros se inicia nos afloramentos hídricos do Lombo do Cedro, a altitude de 1000 m, localizada na encosta da Ribeira da Janela. Construída no século XVII é das mais primitivas construídas na Ilha, foi escavada no solo da encosta e revestida apenas em zonas onde o solo é mais friável. Está inserida numa área de floresta Laurissilva original. O traçado da levada dos Cedros desenvolve-se pela margem direita da Ribeira da Janela até o sítio da Entrosa para depois seguir rumo norte até término no Curral Falso.
Iniciamos o percurso no Fanal e seguimos em direção ao Curral Falso. Caminha-se em mata Laurissilva com árvores muito antigas, é um ambiente lindo e primitivo. Para chegar à Madre da Levada são apenas 6 km em terreno plano. Após a Madre da Levada subimos por uma escada de 1.031 degraus para vencer o desnível de 240 metros e concluir o percurso PR14 na ER209.
Retornamos para ao ponto de partida caminhando 4 km pela estrada.

The Levada dos Cedros starts at the water outcrops of Lombo do Cedro, at an altitude of 1000 m, located on the slope of Ribeira da Janela. Built in the 17th century, it is one of the most primitive built on the island, it was dug in the hillside soil and covered only in areas where the soil is more friable. It is inserted in an area of original Laurissilva forest. The layout of the Levada dos Cedros runs along the right bank of Ribeira da Janela to the Entrosa site and then heads north until it ends at Curral Falso.
We started the trail at Fanal and continued towards Curral Falso. You walk in Laurissilva forest with very old trees, it is a beautiful and primitive environment. To reach Madre da Levada it is only 6 km on level ground. After Madre da Levada, we climbed 1,031 steps to overcome the 240-meter gap and complete the PR14 route.
We return to the starting point walking 4 km along the road.
