Itinerary description
The fifth stage of the Pieterpad takes you from Rolde to Schoonloo. These villages are both located on the Rolderrug, an elevated area of 60 kilometers that stretches through Drenthe and Groningen.
Esdorp Rolde
You start at the edge of beautiful Rolde. Soon you will pass Rolder 's Patathoes, you can eat and drink here to go on the road with enough energy. Initially you walk through the foothills of the National Landscape Drentsche Aa, a lovely landscape with meadows and hedgerows. This is how large parts of Drenthe looked like one hundred and fifty years ago!
Trekker boulder
Then you walk through Boswachterij Gieten-Borger. In this vast forest you will find a mix of coniferous and deciduous trees. The deeper you walk into the forest, the quieter it gets. You pass a heather field in which the Meindersveen is located, a beautiful spot! In Schoonloo you can see some beautiful old farms. You will also pass the Trekkerskei. This 25,000 kg boulder was found in 1966.

Rolder’s Patathoes
At Rolder 's Patathoes in Rolde, quality comes first! Jan works with Oerfrites, which are fries from a 100 percent Dutch potato. The potato has a full flavor and is cut in a special way. In addition to the different types of fries, you will also find accessible menus for an affordable price, such as a schnitzel menu, a spring roll menu, a piri-pirimen menu and sat? of the hare. You can also go here for an extensive range of ice cream and coffee with apple pie! You will find the Patathoes at the large parking lot at the Coop. In short, an ideal starting and stopping point for your cycling or walking route through the beautiful Drenthe countryside! The Pieterpad menu consists of; an original fries with sauce of your choice, fresh raw vegetables and a hunebed burger bacon or cheese. For dessert, a sorbet in various flavors. For EUR 9.95.
