Itinerary description

I did follow reverse opposite than suggested by local authorities. Tough call really, this was perhaps most hard hiking what I ever made at Cyprus. Thru miles just uphill and large portion was linear to uphill which is not an issue if you follow path as suggested.
Anyway effort did pay well, I did catch sunset at the most beautiful area of the trail and due this is closer to car parking spot. If you follow route opposite you could reach car before pitch black come in the forest. If I follow usual route I don't have a chance to catch the sunset at this place or I never reach the car in daylight.

Car park right before nature trail start, if crowd often happen at the weekend due very popular Kaledonia Trail and a busy restaurant share car parking

in this case just park parallel with the road side wise locals do it as well, nobody will give you a ticket.

Easy to follow trail well marked at most places, tons of shade on the path even at hot summer time. Benches with nice views also available at several spots.

Most people took Kaledonia Waterfall path so if you wish to walk far from crowd , this is yours.

his is a lovely but quite long Cyprus Troodos circular walk starting from outside of Platres which goes out via Pouziaris and Troodos and back. One advantage of walking in Cyprus and when up in the Troodos Mountains - especially in the Summer - is that the temperature in the mountains is considerably lower than that found down near the coast and beaches. A 28 degree day in Pafos can easily become - once up the Troodos Mountains - maybe 20 or so degrees. Of course it then follows that you should recognise thatthese are mountains and you should have the necessary clothng with you in case of a sudden weather change. This circular walk has a bit of a climb of around 600 metres at the start but then becomes much easier - total distance approximately 17.5kms. The walk starts just outside of Platres on the main road to Troodos at the Psilo Dendro Trout Farm/restaurant where there is a small car park.

Turn left out of the car park and almost immediately turn left again onto the signposted forest road to Mesa Potamos. Locate the Nature Trail Board which indicates the Pouziaris trail and take the small path to the left of it which heads up into woods. Stay on this rising path as it passes near a viewpoint bench on the right and then reaches a dirt road. Cross over the road and continue on the path which is almost opposite - the path continues climbing and zig zagging. At a path junction with a sign indicating "Psilo Dendro 1km" turn left onto an old mule track. Soon cross another forest track and go on up the path opposite - sometimes there are quite steep drops on the left - certainly there are very good views too.

Around 2.5kms from the start turn right on a path which winds really steeply uphill through the forests to reach the top of Pouziaris. There is a bench seat here but the steel pylon mentioned in several walking books is an ex-steel pylon - i.e. not there. From the top continue along and soon pass another bench/seat and at the nearby signpost continue straight ahead crossing a ridge and heading towards the golf course (I mean golf balls). You eventually join a very rough dirt track - go ahead on this climbing steeply to reach a signposted track junction - go left and continue as the track winds through woods and soon the security fences from the military camp appear on the right.

I did mark closest trees, and give up later, due plenty available on the trail. At autumn you can gather some delicious fruits from these trees. Tree is a beauty itself in any season so unique looking.

But no matter which one do you take finally you will end here once loop is done. Left is the normal suggested route, more easy , due you will come downhill on the toughest parts. Right is for hardcore hiking :)

No matter which one do you take they run parallel and ending at same place, I did hesitate for a while due right is logical, but left was marked as trail so finally I did took left. Was a wrong decision it is goes downhill and up a bit. Right path seems flat and straight and after several miles up .. every uphill is counted..

Pretty intense occasionally. Does require certain level of fitness. Probably not the best choice for a family trail. Otherwise it is pretty solid with astonishing views and plenty of exercise.

Downloaded GPS file on my Suunto watch and started exercise navigating the route with my watch but the actual trail and signs on the ground were different to the gps file. Ended up following signs, and at first half was off route most of the time. Only second half was on route. Technically the trail is moderate to difficult during the second half, the downhill. Bear in mind that I hiked the trail with my two sons, 9 and 5 years old. The first half, the uphill section, technically was easy, with the only difficulty being the uphill nature. Will like to repeat the trail in the near future.
