Itinerary description
Alte is situated on the slopes of the Serra do Caldeirão, it is perhaps the most typical mountain village in the Algarve with streets so steep and narrow that no car can pass. So we parked at the edge of Alte, near the pretty picnic area at the source Fonte Pequena. We followed the gravel road along the river for a while and then climbed left the overgrown hillside towards Soidos, where we turned right into a well marked path to a beautiful lookout. We returned to Soidos and walked through Atalaia and Arneiro to Santa Margarida and then to Alcaria Do Joao where we went on the GR13 'Via Algarviana' to return to Alte.
Take (especially when it's hot) your drinks with you: outside Alte we saw no cafés or shops

Hallo, LucT! Die Tour hat uns (Febr. ´13) sehr viel Freude gemacht: Danke!

Grusse, Luc
We have just completed this walk and I would like to point out that the track as currently shown is partly incorrect.
When one leaves the river, the actual turn off is 1,25 km from the start, to the left, through an overgrown path between to stone walls. After a few hundred meters this track stops and then it becomes necessary to turn left through old fields and over stone walls until the bottom of the valley is reached. Then there is a track used by local farmers that leads to Soidos.
The track leading to the top of Rocha dos Soidos is not shown. That part of the track is marked with the usual yelow and red signs.
Also to be noted that in Santa Margarida, the track follows the caminho Fonte Santa.
This is a beautiful walk with great views.

Mooie track.
