Itinerary description

It was the site of a 48-day siege by the Unionist Army against the Confederates during the American Civil War. This is the site of the last Confederate stronghold on the Mississippi River. Nearly 6,800 Confederate troops were held under siege by Union troops for 48 days. The siege became the longest true siege in American military history. The site also is one of the earliest uses of African American troops in combat

Port Hudson is 1 of 17 State of Louisiana Historic Sites. It is 900 acres total and located in East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana.

Another Louisiana treasure that I was unaware of. Thank you for all your contributions to this really beautiful, unique and unfortunate place. Now I have another 16 sites to add to my State Park bucket list. Are the State Historic sites a child to the Office of State Parks or a sibling?
