This ravine of almost 2 km in length is a remnant of a stream that dates from the end of the last ice age. The waters, now underground, gradually disappeared leaving the largest fossil gorge in Slovenia. In the Pokljuka Gorge we find some karst formations such as natural bridges and caves.
