Point Alpha Weg

Der Point Alpha Weg beginnt am Point Alpha Museum an der hessisch-thüringischen Grenze, wo es einen Parkplatz gibt. Vor oder nach dem Wandern kann man das Museum und den dazu gehörenden ehemaligen US-amerikanischen Stützpunkt und einen Wachturm besuchen („Gedenkstätte Point Alpha“ in Geisa – bitte Öffnungszeiten beachten.)
Man läuft eine Zeit lang an der alten Grenze entlang, bevor man sich wieder Dörfern und Wäldern nähert. Einige Bänke, zum Teil mit Tischen, laden zum Rasten ein. Der Weg ist recht attraktiv und abwechslungsreich: neben der ehemaligen Grenze sieht man typische ehemalige ostdeutsche Orte (wie z.B. Geisa), Felder, Wiesen und Wälder. In den Orten gibt es auch Brunnen. In Geisa läuft man unter anderem am Schloss und an der Kirche vorbei.
Ab und zu werden ruhige Landstrassen verwendet, obwohl der Grossteil des Weges auf Wald und Wiese verläuft.

The Point Alpha Trail starts and finishes next to the Point Alpha Museum, where you can park your car. Before or after completing the route you may visit the museum („Gedenkstätte Point Alpha“ in Geisa – please consult opening hours before leaving). As a part of the museum you can also visit a former US American stronghold and watchtower.
This route follows the borderline between Hessen and Thüringen where the border between East and West Germany stood. After a while it turns away from the border and you enter forests and fields in the former East German part. You also pass through villages or towns such as Geisa, with their typical architecture (half-timbered houses). There are several benches, some with tables, where you can have a picknick or relax. There were two water fountains along the trail in the towns. In Geisa, among others, you pass by the castle, the town center and the church. You mainly use country lanes and forest tracks, though sometimes you will have to walk on quiet country roads. We like this tour because of the varied landscape and because of its cultural elements.

Esta ruta comienza y termina al lado del museo Point Alpha, que tiene un aparcamiento donde se puede dejar el coche. Antes o después de hacer la ruta se puede visitar el museo (“Gedenkstätte Point Alpha“ en Geisa – por favor consultar horarios antes de ir). El museo también incluye una antigua base norteamericana con su torre de vigilancia que se puede visitar.
La ruta sigue durante un rato la antigua frontera entre Alemania del Este y Oeste, entre los Länder Thüringen y Hessen. Después nos adentramos hacia la parte que antes era Alemania del Este, pasando por campos, bosques y pueblos (como Geisa) con su arquitectura típica (casas de paredes entramadas). Encontramos fuentes en los pueblos. Hay varios bancos, algunos con mesas, para hacer el picnic o para descansar. En Geisa pasamos por el castillo y por la iglesia, entre otros. Casi todo el trayecto trascurre sobre caminos forestales o caminos vecinales, aunque también se utilizan carreteras poco transitadas. Nos gustó el camino porque es variado e interesante, combinando paisajes con cultura.
