Itinerary description
Beginning our trail record today was from a residential site near Jolly Terrace and finishing at exit gate on Silvereye Place.
The hike was graded moderate but I’d say was challenging terrain for some so I’d recommend sturdy hiking footwear and walking poles.
Walking the tracks today through the beautiful gorge and marvelling at the diverse wildlife living within the park we came across many kangaroos including 2 males on opposite sides of the cyclone fence having a stand up box on!
The gorge is shaped by volcanic activity, the Plenty River is a dividing line between two distinct geological types. The basalt on the west and sedimentary rock on the eastern side generate a wonderful diversity of habitats, making the park an important refuge for both threatened and regionally significant species.
As said the hike was challenging but very good. Sharing the trails with MTB riders was ok.
Public toilets and tables/seating available at Yellow Gum picnic area. The Blue Dam is also a lovely spot for a picnic break.
