Itinerary description
Plati water stream is one of numerous streams in the area which make up the Diarhizos river. The spring scenery with thousands of green ferns and tree climbing plants combined with the water that flows in the nearby stream will make make you feel like you are in the rain forest of Amazon!
Before you start hiking, make sure you make a short stop and admire the medieval Tzelefos Venetian bridge (https://rb.gy/st7ykb) which is the most beautiful old bridge on the island. Please note that this is NOT the starting point of the hike!
The starting point of the hike is the small bridge where Plati stream mixes with another stream. This is just off the main paved road from Agios Nicolaos to Kaminaria. Driving from Tzelefos bridge towards Kaminaria village, you have to make a left turn in about 1.5 - 2 km to a signposted dirt road leading to Milikouri villageand Komititzi picnic site. The point for the left turn is here: https://tinyurl.com/2p97pxwe . Once you make this turn, drive for 200 - 300 meters and look for parking space.
The linear 16 km hike (8 km each leg) is flat and easy. We follow a very well-marked unpaved road next to the water stream, mostly in a tree covered shaded surrounding. There is only one point where you may go wrong: the point where the road turns right and takes you to Komititzi picnic site.
