Did this today with our 2 kids (8 and 11). We originally wanted to go to the Virgins Peak but had to stop at the Piton Jacob Peak because of the dense vegetation covering the path, it was bit hard for kids because you have to cross a sugar cane field and a forest where the vegetation is covering the path and you have to push your way through branches, leaves etc. but manageable until Piton Jacob Peak. Also it gets a bit muddy in some areas so you should probably avoid this hike after a rainy day.
All in all a nice little hike if you don't mind pushing your way through dense vegetation ;)
The path is marked with blue markings at first until reaching the water tank, then you must be careful to turn right in the forest and not follow the blue markings anymore. In the forest you'll find red markings and some yellow rubans attached to trees to guide your way.
If you come by car, there is a small spot at the start of the hike to park one car, maybe two but it looks more like a section of the road allowing to do a U-turn so I would avoid jamming it with cars.
