Itinerary description

Beautiful hike up to Churup Viewpoint. The first part of the hike is demanding so take it easy until the first refugee is reached. After the first 300m of ascent the path is flatter but the last 150m before the Churup lake is demanding again. There are two short sections where you need to pull yourself up with a stone-linked chain. Remember to rest after every section. Its also recommended to bring a plastic poncho as the weather up the lake can change quickly (we suffered a 5 minute strong hail ansld then sunny again).

The path is well marked and is very difficult to get lost. The cost to enter is 30 s/. We were 3 people and got a Taxi from Huaraz to Pitec for 20 s/ each. On the way down, there are always vans waiting which then depart once are full (10 s/ each). Make sure not to be the last to finish otherwise the last van could be gone.
