Itinerary description
Outram Park - Pearl's Hill - York Hill - Alexandria Canal PCN - Jervois Hill - Kay Siang Road - Dempsey - Pierce Road - Holland Park - Cornwall Drive - Bukit Timah (Namly) - Sixth Avenue MRT.
This is a urban & semi-urban walk from Outram Park MRT to Sixth Avenue MRT, tracing the water pipes bringing water from Johor.
Technically, the trek is supposed to begin at Pearl's Hill Service Reservoir, but I couldn't find the pipes. For much of the walk until Ganges Avenue, the pipes are beneath roads & buildings. However they make an appearance just before Alexandria Canal, and from then on they can be seen running just underneath the ground. Significant PUB infrastructure - solar-powered monitoring stations, access manholes etc - mark the pipes' passage through the centre of Singapore.
This trek takes in the best scenery in the south, going from old HDB (York Hill, Jalan Minyak) to the richest neighbourhoods in the city (Jervois, Dempsey, Bukit Timah). Mostly gravel and PCN, with grassy stretches that will be muddy after rain.
There's a huge gradient increase at Bukit Timah, which yields great views of the area.
A detour can be made to Empress Market hawker centre for a break/meal before tackling the heights.
