Itinerary description
This hike is very beautiful with stunning views of Folsom Lake and amazing boulders and rockfalls. Trail surface is good; varying from dirt, sand, slippery decomposed granite and some granite or log steps.
Signage along the trail is lacking at best. Also, there are lots of intersecting unmarked trails along with upper and lower trails in some areas. Using a recording or a trail map is advised.
CORRECTIONS:
1) At like 3.8, do not continue as the recording shows, instead turn right to head uphill to Sterling Point (porta-toilets in upper parking lot).
2) At mile 6.5, do NOT take the right hand trail going down unless you are a confident “mountain goat” type hiker. That trail is very narrow on a steep drop-off which requires a leap across an area that has eroded away.
