Itinerary description
The Pink gorge, Pink Canyon or Vardaguyn gorge ( Վարդագույն կիրճ ) is a marvelous place hidden in the Yeranos mountains ( Երանոսի լեռներ ).
Though there are some variations of this trail, there is just a tad difference between them.
Some information about the trail:
--- The trail starts from Lanjazat village's outskirts ( Լանջազատ ) .
It takes 40 min driving from Yerevan.
--- There are not any blazed spots here, you just follow the trail to see all the beauty of the pinkish gorge, having GPS is a must.
--- First part of the trail takes you uphill, to the highest part where you have amazing sight of Azat dam ( Ազատի ջրամբար ). There are some parts here, where it's uncomfy hike and easy to slip, but the view that you'll have after makes it worth your struggle .
--- Some parts of the trail you follow vehicle traces, some parts - hike in a narrow gorge.
--- There is a small climbing part in the middle of the route, it's quite doable but be careful when you climb there when it rains, the stones are slippery.
--- when you hike the gorge it leads you to dead-ends, so this is the spot where you turn back and return the same way.
SEASON: Be careful with the hot season here. Starting from June till October this area is dry, hot and full of snakes. It's better to hike here in March, April, early May, mid October, November. The trail may be snow blocked in winter. As to me the best month to hike here is April, it's that shortest period when the area is green and not too dry.
--- All the waypoints I've mentioned here concern the way from the beginning to the dead end, not coming back one.
