Itinerary description
Slightly of the beaten path, Pinara Antik Kenti is definitely worth a detour. Once a large Lycian city at the foot of what is now Mount Babadağ, it presents itself as a set of tombs carved into a rocky cliff.
The site is peaceful and mostly undisturbed, the ruins are scattered and appear left as they fell, which adds to the charm. It includes an amphitheatre, various temples, an odeon (small theatre), a bath house, a church, an agora, and lots of tombs.
Higher up on the slope of the mountain on the south end of Pinara is the elaborate King's Tomb. Be careful, there is a tricky descent to go there which may not be suitable for everybody, and the path will surely be treacherous when wet.
That said, Pinara is a treat. Do go!
