Itinerary description
Walk from Chania (the wintersports village) along the Felouka stream with three waterfalls to Makrirachi. I’m aware that more people uploaded this tour, but mine is smooth and corrected and contains a detour to a viewpoint.
You start from the village by the asphalt road until the ski resort parking lot. From there you follow a lovely and well-marked path downhill. All the time you hear the waters of the Felouka stream and side-streams (although also hooting trucks, especially in apple harvest season).
At the Plakatoura waterfall you may have your first rest, then you continue descending until the Poros waterfall and pool, where you may swim if you can stand the cold. Further down until the Kavouria waterfall with marvellous stone formations. Then a stretch through chestnut and apple orchards.
The path narrows and continues through forest. For the detour to this Aetofolia viewpoint you have to scramble and in my opinion it’s not worth the 25 minutes allez-retour. Past this junction it’s again a smooth forest path which ends on the asphalt road into Makrirachi village.
The walk should take you about 4¼ hours, no taps on the way.
