Pico do Areeiro-Pico Ruivo 2022-06-06

Depuis Funchal, suivre la route vers Monte (Jardin tropical), puis continuer sur la route ER103 en direction de Ribeiro Frio/Santana. Au niveau de l'auberge Abrigo de Poiso, tourner à gauche sur la route ER202 en direction d'Areeiro (pancarte). Rouler jusqu'au terminus de la route (grand parking, mais pouvant être bondé si on arrive tardivement).
Au retour, on peut tourner à droite sur la petite route forestière en direction du superbe point de vue d'Eira do Serrado pour une vue imprenable sur le village de Curral de Freiras. Ensuite le retour sur Funchal est bien indiqué.

Cotation CAS = T2
Aucune difficulté. Large chemin dallé, escaliers (itinéraire PR1). Entièrement sécurisé. Aucun risque de se tromper et de se perdre (pancartes). Néanmoins, quelques passages vertigineux pouvant impressionner sans qu'il y ait de danger objectif. Lampe torche nécessaire pour les tunnels. La seule difficulté tient dans les innombrables escaliers aux hautes marches que l'on n'aborde pas quatre à quatre comme à la maison, surtout au retour!
Remarque importante: en réalité, le dénivelé total est de 885m!

A partir de Pico Areeiro, l'itinéraire est unique et évident et ne nécessite pas de description. A noter que seule la voix ouest par les tunnels est accessible, l'itinéraire est étant fermé pour cause de dégradations.
A l'approche du refuge du Pico Ruivo (Casa de Abrigo do Pico Ruivo), on rejoint l'itinéraire plus court et plus facile en provenance de l'Achada do Teixeira (à partir de Santana).

From Funchal, follow the road to Monte (Tropical Garden), then continue on the road ER103 towards Ribeiro Frio/Santana. At the Abrigo de Poiso hostel, turn left onto the ER202 road towards Areeiro (sign). Drive to the end of the road (large parking lot, but can be overcrowded if you arrive late).
On the way back, you can turn right on the small forest road towards the beautiful viewpoint of Eira do Serrado for a great view on the village of Curral de Freiras. Then the return to Funchal is well indicated.

SAC rating = T2
No difficulty. Wide paved path, stairs (PR1 route). Completely safe. No risk of getting lost (signs). Nevertheless, some vertiginous passages can impress without any objective danger. Flashlight necessary for the tunnels. The only difficulty lies in the countless stairs with high steps that we do not climb four by four as at home, especially on the way back!
Important note: in reality, the total height difference is 885m!

From Pico Areeiro, the itinerary is unique and obvious and does not require any description. Note that only the western route through the tunnels is accessible, the eastern route being closed due to damage.
When approaching the Pico Ruivo refuge (Casa de Abrigo do Pico Ruivo), we join the shorter and easier route from Achada do Teixeira (for a start from Santana).
